    Wow, I've never …
Wow, I've never even thought of that. I've always heard that you should just stop when the dog starts to pull. It worked on my last dog when she was a puppy, but now I have adopted a border collie who isn't a puppy anymore. She just looks at me like I'm nuts and continues to pull. Thanks a bunch! I'm definitely going to try this!

This really is a great way to get your dog to walk with you — it has worked on every dog I have ever tried it on. Within 15 minutes the dog will be walking right next to you. Great video.

it dosn't in that case. Try using treats or a toy to get the dog by your side and let him know walks are good.

    instead of changing …
instead of changing directions when he pulls, have the dog sit and wait every time he pulls. it makes for a very tedious walk but is very effective with time. also, it IS very important to have no tension in the leash as that is the ultimate goal.

I have a yorkie that pulls until he chokes himself. He is 2 yrs old and i have tried to stop it by changing directions and saying 'lets go' everytime i do but then he pulls again whenever i turn back. I haven't let out the tension in the leash like you say though, i am going to try that. im sure he will just keep pulling though, idk what else to do

my dog did that on her first few walks then she started pulling when she got more confident
yours may be staying behind cause she is uncertain of her surroundings (could be reacting to your scared feeling) or just respecting you as the leader how is her body posture when she does this?

  22. MegoSamaLadySir Says:

    I've tried …
I've tried something like this before but my dog just decides to pull in any direction I lead her mind you she is an Alaskan Malamute a dog made to pull. She is also a show dog and walks great in the ring once she calms down but still needs corrections now and then. But on normal walks I've had to get her to pull a tire to slow her down, it's only 15 to 20 pounds nothing major and she loves it

    I think that's just …
I think that's just confidence in her surroundings. My border collie is 4 months old, but we didn't start walking her until after 2.5 months after all her injections and she hadn't ventured outside of the garden. That was her territory and as soon as you took her away from that familiarity she stayed behind when walking because she wanted to go back into her domain. It's not an issue you can force but I think as she gets older over the next couple of months she'll be more confident on walks.
